How safe is plastic fencing? Quick Guide

Value Fencing PVC aka plastic fencing is very strong when properly installed. Our posts are filled with steel reinforced concrete.

PVC Fencing is widely used for perimeter fencing all over the world, not only residential, but also for commercial use as boundary and security fences.

Value Fencing has installed countless PVC Swimming Pool, Picket, Palisade, Private & Semi-Private Boundary fences all over South Africa at private residences as well as commercial buildings, blocks of flats, Estates, Complexes and Body Corporates.

Early forms of vinyl fencing were simply polyvinyl chloride, like the materials in PVC pipe, extruded to look like lumber. The product was durable, but after the product was in the sun for a short time, the PVC began to degrade, chalk and turn yellow. Value Fencing's vinyl fencing has five times the tensile strength of wood. Its' difficult to stretch or tear apart. Vinyl is four times more flexible than wood.

Ensure that your Contractor does not supply you with PVC with at least 6,5% TiO2 (Titanium Di-Oxide) in non chalking grade (Value Fencing only uses Dupont brand).

Cheaper alternatives use lower grade as well as lower percentage Ti02 with high levels of CaC02 (Calcium Carbonate) which makes PVC very brittle & not properly UV Resistant. Insist your Contractor supply you with a ASTM Certificate which should state "PVC fencing" and not Cabling or Conduit.

A reputable Contractor should also present a Guarantee on the product from their supplier.

PVC fencing can break if subjected to a direct impact, e.g. a motor vehicle running into the fence, however, if any one of the fencing items (Rail, Pickets, Panels, or Posts) does get damaged, it can easily be replaced, this is a great benefit when using our product. How Safe is Plastic Fencing? Key Considerations When Choosing PVC Fencing
