12 Tips to prevent Phishing fraud.

Phishing scams are a common tactic used by criminals to steal your money or personal information.

These fraudulent scams usually involve fraudulent emails that appear to come from a reputable company but are designed to trick you into revealing sensitive information.

To protect yourself from these attacks, it's important to be aware of the signs of a phishing email.

Here are some tips to help you identify phishing attempts:

  1. The sender's email address does not match the organization's legitimate email address.
  2. Be wary of email addresses that may resemble the company's legitimate address but are different.
  3. Official communication from Value Fencing will always come from an email address ending in @valuefencing.co.za, such as info@valuefencing.co.za.
  4. The email contains spelling and grammar errors.
  5. A sense of urgency, such as a threat to act immediately.
  6. An email containing a website link that requires you to click. The link may appear similar to the legitimate address, but even a small difference can lead to a different website.
  7. A request for personal information such as username, password, or bank details.
  8. You have no prior relationship with the company that appears to have sent the email.
  9. The entire text of the email is contained within an image, rather than the normal text format.
  10. You are asked to contact your regular Value Fencing representative through a phone number or email address that differs from your regular one.
  11. Ensure that the Display Name of an email address matches the email address you expect to receive communication from.
  12. Never accept an email asking to change your banking details. Always contact the company directly to confirm any such requests.
